Using Baby Wipes on Shabbos
Using the baby wipes that are commonly available can present a serious problem of schitah, squeezing, on Shabbos. There are two permissible alternatives: There are baby wipes on the market that have a proper hechsher, permitting their use on Shabbos. They are made entirely of synthetic material which is non-absorbent, and since the liquid on their surface is not absorbed there is no problem of schitah. The second alternative is to pour liquid soap on the area to be cleaned, and since liquid soap has already been poured on the child, the sole function of the baby wipes is to wipe the child and not to release the liquid inside the baby wipes. Used in this manner, regular baby wipes are permitted on Shabbos.
