Mikvah for a Woman Married to a Non-Jew
If a woman who is married to a non-Jew, rachmana litzlan, wishes to keep the laws of taharas hamishpachah (family purity), should she be allowed to go to the mikvah? There is an extensive discussion in poskim about this: Would permitting it be tantamount to condoning her “marriage” to a non-Jew? Would there be any point in her going to the mikvah, given that the “marriage” itself is forbidden by the Torah? Would there be any merit in her doing so, considering that her husband does not have the chiyuv (obligation) of keeping the laws of taharas hamishpachah? The consensus among poskim is that even if, arguendo, there may be some merit to her going to the mikvah, nevertheless, the mikvah should not be used under such circumstances. However, she might be permitted to use the mikvah if there is a compelling reason to believe that taking on this mitzvah would lead to the dissolution of her “marriage” to the non-Jew.
