What may I read in the bathroom?
Reading books which contain divrei Torah (Torah teachings) while in the bathroom is halachically problematic for two reasons: it’s prohibited to think about Torah in such a place, and Torah texts may not be brought in there. Thus, books whose primary theme is Torah, or even works containing general information but whose aim is instilling Torah ideas, may indeed not be brought into a bathroom. However, it’s permissible to read books of a general nature which have some Torah concepts incidentally dispersed throughout, provided that one turns the page when coming across something Torah-related. Any book containing Hashem’s name, however, may never be brought into a bathroom. #521?
