Yesterday we learnt that if a person makes a brocho on food and later has more food, then if when making the brocho they had in mind to eat more food or the food was in front of them, the first brocho covers the second food. When one did not have that intent in mind while making the brocho and the new food was not in front of him, there is a distinction in halacha among three cases: 1) If a person will be eating more of the same food, for example he had an apple, and now he is having another apple, he does not have to make a new brocho even if he completely finished the first apple. 2) If a person is moving from one food to another food, such as first having an apple and later another type of fruit, the halacha is that if a little of the apple remains on the table, they do not have to make a new brocho on the second, different fruit. However, if the original apple is totally gone, the person did not have any particular intent in mind when saying the brocho, and a new fruit is coming, they need to make a new brocho. 3) If the second food is a totally different and new food, such as moving from a solid to a liquid which has the same brocho, then even if there is a little of the solid left, one nevertheless has to make a totally new brocho.
