How Foods Combine for Brochos

73. How Foods Combine for Brochos

The required amount in order to be able to make a Brocho Acharoina, an after-blessing, after eating solid foods is the size called Kezayis. The required amount for a Brocho Acharoina, an after-blessing, for liquids is a Reviis. A variety of solid foods may be combined in the Shiur, measure, of Kezayis even though they individually have different after-blessings. For example, if one eats a half a Kezayis of cake and a half a Kezayis of candy, they will make the Brocho Acharoina of Boirei Nefoshois, the lesser of the two after-blessings, as there was not a Kezayis of cake by itself which is needed to warrant the Brocho of Al Hamichya. The same idea will apply to different liquids that are drunk together. Solids and liquids, however, do not combine to make a Shiur.
